What is hoof balance and why is it important?
Hoof balance evaluations look at the hoof pastern axis (the way the pastern and hoof align) as well as any pathology assosciated with the joints within. Radiographs are used to get an in depth look. Findings are then shared with the farrier. As part of the service suggestions are made regarding the trim and shoe choice to help the farrier improve the balance and function of the foot. Many lameness issues are resolved through this process with no additional treatment necessary. This is also a very important tool for increasing the longevity of your horse's career and preventing future injuries and soundness issues.
Hoof balance evaluations can be done in person or by consultation.
For consultations please email LM and DP radiograph views of the hoof/hooves along with a history or copy of your veterinarians exam notes and pictures (one from the front of the foot, one from the back and one from the side). Trim and shoe suggestions will then be sent.
